Repeated facial movements etch lines into the skin, similar to paper that’s been folded over and over. When we are young, the skin bounces back into place. But as collagen and elastin decline over time, the lines remain and become deeper. Modern anti-ageing treatments in our Ealing skin clinic, like wrinkle injections were developed to minimize the amount of facial muscle movement, thereby preventing wrinkle formation for skin that looks youthful and refreshed.
This is the #1 treatment for dynamic wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet), between the eyebrows (the “11’s or worry lines) and the forehead. Other treatment areas include the masseter or jawline muscle, the upper lip, the nose and even the armpits to reduce sweating.
When Anti-wrinkle treatment is carried out for cosmetic purposes by trained practitioners, it is considered quite safe as it works by relaxing the muscles found on the face. After about a week after the treatment, the wrinkles and lines start disappearing. However, this does not limit the facial expressions of the patient because the effect is restricted to the treated area and is temporary, results typically lasting 4-6 months.
Main treatment areas include frown lines, above the nose (glabella) and lines found at the corner of the eyes “crows feet”.
Some confusion exists between the use of Anti-wrinkle injections ( Relaxing muscles) and the use of facial fillers ( Filling the lines) such as Radiesse & Volume.
Anti-wrinkle treatment decreases muscle contraction which helps reduce dynamic wrinkles – wrinkles caused by movement. This is usually most effective around the eyes and forehead. Facial fillers help “fill” volume deficits and smooth out static wrinkles – wrinkles caused by volume loss and gravity. Fillers are generally most useful around the mouth and in the mid-face, but can be used to define the jawline, chicks and nose as well.
Often, a combination of Anti-wrinkle treatment and facial fillers are required to achieve the best results.
